The Story

While living in Sydney during the 1990’s and beyond, Richard and Diana constantly hankered after Central Otago.

Thoughts of our farm and its magnetically beautiful landscape haunted us and we decided to do something positive which would eventually lure us back, give us a focus and possibly at some distant point in the future an income!  We have always been passionate about the area and passionate about Central Otago Pinot Noir so we concluded that our venture would be planting a vineyard on an 8 hectare plot of land overlooking the Clutha River and equi-distant from Wanaka and Cromwell.

All the research was done (thanks to the knowledge and enthusiasm of Robin Dicey who had been growing grapes at Mt Difficulty in Bannockburn for many years).  We found out about strange things like "grower degree days", "diurnal range", "pigburn soils", "river gravels", "katabatic frosts" - and concluded that Queensberry was the place where many good factors were and many bad factors weren't. We planted our first clones in December 2003. The growing process began and so did the waiting.

It was with great excitement and joy that we harvested our first vintage in May 2007 and launched into a new phase of marketing and distribution. From small beginnings....
